FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Clause and Phrase Game (FREE)”

Cause and Phrase Race! This game is for students to practice the difference between a clause and a phrase. (It is helpful before teaching simple, compound, and complex sentences.) In groups they will race against each other to complete the task first. The teacher instructions includes four extension activity ideas (including completing the phrases and labeling subjects and verbs.) In early grades this game is a great introduction to the concept of clause vs phrase, while in later grades it serves as a fun review before introducing more difficult concepts like compound or complex sentences.

Thank you for downloading my FREEBIE S.O.A.P.S anchor charts. These anchor charts go along with my SOAPS graphic organizers, bookmarks, and anchor charts download. When teaching persuasive or other nonfiction reading and writing I found that my students had difficulty organizing their thoughts and analysis of various pieces of writing or speeches. Too often students took whatever, they saw or read to be absolute truth without questioning the speaker's purpose. I began a "hot topics" section where students or myself would bring in articles, advertisements (or in election season debates) to do quick SOAPS on as a way to quickly breakdown a piece for further discussion.

FREE MATH LESSON - “Polygons with Stained Glass Geometry”

Use this activity as a great review of geometric terminology and how to use a compass to construct circles. Using a compass and ruler, students create a design on graph paper that is then converted to a blank transparency using permanent markers. Students are given a list of specific shapes that must be included in the design. This activity can also be a great FIP assessment or Math center.
