FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Writing Pacing Guide, Curriculum Map, Digital Format”

This fully editable, fully digital resource is designed to serve as a suggested pacing guide for an entire, full curriculum for a writing course.

Teaching writing is tough. I get it. It isn’t always easy to teach, and it isn’t always easy to do. So, I’ve created this resource from years and years of teaching writing at the secondary level. Knowing I wanted to provide other teachers with the tools they need in a ready-to-go comprehensive format drove me to focus on my teaching practices with writing over the past year. What I realized was that writing wasn’t just on my lesson plans. It wasn’t just plunked in whenever I felt like. I was purposefully planning with writing as the main focus. It was in everything I was doing.

This resource is designed to serve as a suggested pacing guide for an entire curriculum dedicated to teaching writing with anchor/mentor texts fused into the process.

With each unit that progresses through the three major modes of writing and a research unit, you will find links to ready-to-go resources that I’ve created and sell, although I’m offering this guide completely free. Whether you select my materials or not, this guide can help you make your own selections and curriculum for teaching writing.

The pacing is based on a traditional schedule. Depending on how many writing assignments you assign, you will have enough material for one semester or one year.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “FREE Nonfiction Text Structure Printables and Activities”

Readers who understand the informational text structures can approach informational texts with a plan for their reading. They'll begin to recognize the organizational patterns of informational texts and expect the information to unfold in certain ways. For example, students who can recognize a compare and contrast text structure will read to find comparison points and differences. Students who can recognize a problem-solution text structure will look for a problem, search for solutions offered, and evaluate the solutions based on information provided in the text.

The goal of this free resource is to help your students identify and understand nonfiction text structures.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Vivid Verbs Poster”

Using simple verbs in our writing can be boring and less engaging. Students should be taught to use vivid verbs to add excitement to their writing and help create a picture in the reader's head.

This poster contains 45 words vivid verbs. There are 5 words in each of the following categories: walk, like, see, eat, run, jump, talk, got, cry.

There are two version of the poster. One contains the custom fonts (seen in preview) and one is editable.

FREE SCIENCE LESSON - “Measuring Volume of Irregular Solids (ENGLISH AND SPANISH) Part 3”

Measuring Volume of Irregular Solids (Water Displacement); Midiendo el Volumen de Sólidos Irregulares (Desplazamiento de Agua)

This product is an interactive science lab which focuses on measuring volumes of irregular solids using the method of water displacement. It is also shown interactively that objects with the same volume may have different masses. This scientific laboratory contains activities to Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend, and Evaluate. Several parts of these activities may be followed by the students without the help of the teacher since they include very clear steps and guided questions that keep the students focused.

Concepts:

Solids have their own volume and shape
We can add and subtract volumes of solids
Milliliters are equivalent to cubic centimeters
Volume and mass are physical properties of matter
Solids are an example of a state of matter
Volume can be measured using a graduated cylinder or a ruler
