By Scipi - Science and Math
Math; Grades 4-7

This seven page handout has 11 ways to practice recognizing fractional parts, naming equivalent fractions, identifying basic percents (25%, 50%, 75% 100%), and reducing fractions to lowest terms. It is a fun and engaging way to practice math and keep the students actively involved. Specific words are given. If each fractional part is correctly identified, when the students write the fractional parts on the lines provided, a new word is created. Each group of new words becomes a snow riddle or answer.

ELA; Grades K-2

Winter Word Match is an activity in which students will practice their winter vocabulary while matching words to their picture. Five different sets are included: animals, clothes/ food, snow, time, and outdoor fun. Assessments are included.

By Sndyer Classroom
Math; Grades 4-6

Engage your students with these self-checking QR code multiplying decimals worksheets, and students love checking their work on their devices. Includes 6 worksheets with a total of 48 multiplying decimals problems. Each problem also has a grid box in which to solve the problem and an accompanying QR code that reveals the answer. QR codes allow students to self-check their work.

ELA/Writing; Grades 7-10

This four-passage text set is accompanied by an argumentative prompt regarding the topic of cell phones in the classroom. It's a perfect assignment to engage typically students of all ability levels due to the interesting topic. It will also strengthen your students experience with the idea of using the text to support their writing, rather than their own personal experiences.  Modeled after AIR Testing, which is used in numerous states across the country, it would also fit well into a PARCC simulation. The text set, itself, is 7 pages long.

ELA/Writing; Grades 3-12

With over 20 compliments and 15 improvement suggestions, the conference card will help guide what to say during a writing conference with your students! Just like when you scaffold and model the requirements for an essay in a mini-lesson, you do the same thing individually for each student through conferencing. Conferencing will help you deliver differentiated instruction.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Shiloh Word Wall”

by Pirate Queen Teaching Treasures
3rd - 5th Grade

Shiloh Word Wall contains Word cards with illustrations for each chapter in the book, “Shiloh” by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. There is a total of thirty Tier 2 words, two per chapter. If you’ve never utilized a Word Wall, here is an opportunity for you to discover its advantages.

One of the best ways to reinforce vocabulary is a Word Wall. Designating a wall in your classroom and displaying word cards for students to see and refer to on a daily basis makes the statement that vocabulary knowledge should be taken seriously. Of course, it is not enough to staple a word card to a wall. There must be related activities. For example, assign a word secretly to small groups to act out the meaning of the word for a Charades type of game. Encourage students to find the words on the wall in the books they are reading and in the speech of others. Reward them for using the words in their own speech and writing.

Click here to view Shiloh Vocabulary Bundle. This 174 page unit includes:

• Slideshows to introduce vocabulary for each chapter and
provide practice to reinforce word meaning
• Word/Definition cards for a “Matching” game
• Three different type of practice worksheets that require
students to process word meaning in a variety of ways
• Assessments for which students must use word meaning to
understand the context in which they are used
• Answer Keys
• Literacy Center activities
• Word Lists
• Word Map for note-taking
• Student Objectives & Common Core connections
• Teaching Tips

Thank you for considering this product. Your feedback is appreciated.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Diary of a Worm Genre Poster and Review”

by SchoolBoxTreasures
3rd - 5th Grade

This is a fun activity to help students distinguish between fiction and nonfiction. Using the book Diary of a Worm, students will work in groups to find all fictional and facts found using graphic organizers. (The lesson is described in the .pdf)

Then students will create a poster showing the following:
1. Description of fiction and nonfiction
2. Facts and Fictional Elements Found!
3. Researched Questions and Answers inspired by the book
4. Clues a text is fiction or nonfiction
5. Strategies when reading fiction or nonfiction

I used this activity in my classroom after having them do double column notes on the differences and elements of fiction and nonfiction as well as a prezi on fact and fiction.

This activity makes a fun and engaging end of unit assessment.

I hope you enjoy! If so, please leave feedback! :)

Keywords: reading, strategies, genre, fiction, nonfiction, research, diary of a worm, truthme, schoolboxtreasures
