FREE SOCIAL STUDIES LESSON - “Japanese Internment Camp Human Rights Activity”

by Different Drummer Secondary Resources
7th - 11th Grade

**Satisfies the Common Core Requirement Reading Standard for Informational Text Integration of Knowledge and Ideas #9 for 9th-12th grades.

This worksheet can be used in a variety of ways.

If you teach Social Studies, this can be used as a supplemental activity when discussing Japanese Internment camps and the violation of Japanese-American human and constitutional rights. '

If you are reading or plan to read Farewell to Manzanar, you can use this worksheet to see the internment of the Japanese and Jeanne from the point of view of human and constitutional legality of their internment.

This activity asks students to use the Declaration of Independence as a primary resource document to help them figure out which rights they believe are the most important to American citizens and human rights in general. They are then asked to try to analyze the Japanese internment from a legal and personal standpoint. In addition to short answers, students are also required to create well-developed paragraphs exploring their personal beliefs to come up with their own point of view.

FREE SCIENCE LESSON - “Student Self-Checklist for Science Investigations”

by Scipi - Science and Math
2nd - 4th Grade

This student self-checklist follows the six steps of the scientific method.

a) Exploration
b) Plan
c) Question
d) Prediction (Hypothesis)
e) Data Collection and Display
f) Conclusion

Students simply check the appropriate boxes in each category as they work through an investigation. Since the checklist is generic, it can be used with any science investigation for grades 2-4. Students should utilize it during the entire investigation to help self-check and guide them as they complete a science investigation.

FREE SCIENCE LESSON - “Energy Student Learning Objectives”

by Science in the City
8th - 12th Grade

Are you looking for a way to make your students more focused on what they should be learning, and more motivated to fill in gaps in their knowledge?

I started making "Keeping Track of my Learning" Pages for each unit and they have completely changed my class! They are specific objectives, written in first person, student-friendly language. They also include a list of suggested vocabulary for that unit assessment. Students can rate how they are doing on each one on a descriptive scale. They can then use these to guide their studying, ask questions, etc. I sometimes use them at the start of a unit, midway through, or at the end as a starting point to focus their review.

Each objective is based on standards and performance indicators around It covers content such as heat transfer, specific heat, electromagnetic radiation, water phase change, and kinetic and potential energy.

On my course evaluations many of my past students said this was one of the things that helped them the most!
