Each page of the packet includes the following activities:
* Write It - Students will write the trick word two times using proper letter formation.
* Circle It - Students will find and circle the trick word within a group of different words using a variety of fonts.
* Put It In The Sentence - Students will write the trick word in three different sentences. Sentences include different placement of the word and different punctuation.
* Fill It In - Students will box up the trick word.
* Cut It and Paste It - Students will cut out letter tiles and paste them into proper order to build the trick word.

In my classroom, I use these practice pages in direct support of Wilson’s Fundations® Level One; however you will find overlap with words included on the Dolch Lists and the Fry word lists.

There is flexibility owning and using this packet. The practice pages can be used as an extension during unit lessons, as a center activity, or as additional practice for morning work or homework.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “5 Free Punctuation Worksheets”

by Stacey Lloyd
6th - 9th Grade

Before they get to high school, students need to be able to identify and correct errors in punctuation. These five worksheets will help your students practice this skill in a fun and engaging way. All worksheets come with detailed answer keys.

*PLEASE NOTE: These worksheets are intended for practicing purposes. They do not explain the functions of the different types of punctuation. Students will need to have prior knowledge before attempting these worksheets.*

CONTENTS

Punctuating Direct & Indirect Speech: This worksheet requires students to examine a little cartoon and then transcribe the spoken words of the cartoon in both the direct and indirect forms.

Understanding Comma Splices: This worksheet guides students through the definition of a comma splice, with examples. The activity requires them to identify whether the sentences are correctly punctuated or if there are comma splices.

Using the Apostrophe: This worksheet contains examples of apostrophe errors in advertising. Students have to identify the errors and correct them, but they are also required to go one step further and explain the corrections.

Using Commas Correctly: This worksheet contains various sentences which contain commas – some correctly punctuated, others incorrectly punctuated. Students have to identify whether the commas are used correctly or not, and then go further to explain why or why not.

Using Colons and Semicolons: This worksheet contains 2 exercises: in the first, students have to fill in the missing colons and semicolons; in the second, students have to identify the correctly punctuated sentences (multiple choice).

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “FREE Creative Writing Lesson Plan Wanted Poster”

by Judith M Darling - Razzle Dazzle Learning
5th - 12th Grade

In this lesson students think of something they really want then write a story about why they want it, what they have to do to get it, and what they will do with it once they have it. It is interactive because they brainstorm, write in paragraphs, edit, and grade their own paper before turning it in. The lesson includes:

1. Instructions on how to use the lesson plan
2. The writing process steps for teaching the plan
3. An Idea Organizer that taps into the students personal bank of knowledge
4. A paragraph organizer that guides the student's through writing the introduction, body, and conclusion
5. Two scoring guides (one includes the six traits of writing) so students know what the expectations are, how they will be evaluated, and allows them to grade their own papers before turning it in for the final teacher evaluation.
6. An art/drawing worksheet to go along with the lesson

Feedback from a state Teacher of the Year.
"Love the Razzle Dazzle materials! I have used them for years now and there is nothing better for language arts. This year I purchased the writing materials: Creative Writing, Expository Writing, and The Book on How to Really Teach Writing and they are just amazing. I will not teach without them!" -- Jackie Knupp Johnson, Alaska State Teacher of the Year, 2010
