FREE MISC. LESSON - “Testing Do Not Disturb Sign”

This is a set of two free signs that can easily be hung up for testing. They say "Stop Testing in Progress" and "Quiet Please! Testing in Progress." This set of signs can be printed in color or black and white and immediately hung up.

As we approach midterms and state tests, these are often needed.

FREE SOCIAL STUDIES LESSON - “News of the World Book and Video Discussion Questions Free”

News of the World classroom discussion questions for teachers.

The News of the World book by Paulette Jiles does include discussion questions in the back of the book. Additionally, the attached could also be used. The video has no questions so here are some if it may be of interest to some teachers.

This book made quite an impression on me and I cannot stop thinking about it. I had no idea the situation this story presents happened many times. Let's just say a child taken from her family for years, and is then returned, but her parents are dead. The story takes place five years after the end of the Civil War. The hero, Captain Kidd, fought in two wars and lived through the third. He raised two daughters and felt his parenting days were over. He promises to take a girl back to her aunt and uncle which requires traveling 400 miles through dangerous territory. It was indeed the wild west at that time, and they face dangers and unpleasant conditions.

FREE SCIENCE LESSON - “FREE Science Lab Graphing and Interpolation”

Graphing and interpolation are very important science process skills that are essential for any science class. Once a graph has been constructed using established data points, interpolation can be used to determine the answers to new and different questions not determined by lab experimentation. This is an activity that can be used to teach basic graphing skills as well as the use of basic pieces of lab equipment - the ruler and the balance.

In this activity, students will be using samples of ordinary poster board with uniform thickness to determine the area. Since the thickness is constant, students can measure the mass and area of rectangular poster board samples and graph the data to find a relationship between mass and area (mass/area). Using the graph, students will then be able to find the unknown area of an irregularly shaped sample of poster board.

Materials needed: Laboratory Balance, 4 samples of poster board of regular shape, 1 irregular sample, graph paper, ruler, pencil.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Blizzard-A First Grade Sight Word Game”

Your students will love this winter-themed sight word game! This is a perfect addition to a sight word literacy center.

Directions:
Students take turns picking a card. If they can read the card they keep it in their pile. If a student pulls a “Blizzard” card they must put all of their collected cards back into the original pile or basket and start collecting again! The student with the most cards at the end of the game wins!

This game includes all words from the first grade sight word list.
