8th - 11th Grade
This is a puzzle that encompasses much of what is learned in middle school and high school about the periodic table including energy levels, the different families and groups, along with other specific traits of different elements.
Instead of the traditional symbols of the periodic table, they are replaced with arbitrary letters and must fill in a blank periodic table with those new letters based on a list of traits. This is an end of the unit worksheet that requires a lot of thought processing from the students and will get conversations going about the periodic table to figure out which element goes where.
This is great way to challenge the student's understanding as it is not route memorization but an understanding of the different principles of the periodic table. It makes a great extension or as an end of the unit assessment for students to work on together.
