FREE SOCIAL STUDIES LESSON - “American Civil War Trading Cards Assignment”

by The English Teacher's Pet
7th - 11th Grade

In need of a culminating project for your American Civil War unit?

Included in this 5 page document are instructions and a grading rubric for making a set of Civil War trading cards. Students can choose six topics (one for each card). The front of the 3x5 or 4x6 index card will have a picture, name, and if applicable, the Union or Confederacy. On the back they write a “mini essay” about the topic telling about the person or battle and its significance in the Civil War. The “mini essay” will have to be cited for their information. 28 choices of topics range from major Civil War battles (Battle of Gettysburg, Wilderness, Shiloh) to famous figures (Grant, Lee, Lincoln, and Davis). A rubric is included for your use.

A creative way for students to show their expertise on the Civil War!
