3rd - 5th Grade
Your kids will beg you to play this fun, engaging game every day! They will have the opportunity to practice their multiplication and division facts in a fun, engaging way. This game can be used to help struggling fourth and fifth graders, too!
You will need one set for each group you want to have. You may have 3-5 students playing at one group. Then, distribute the cards to each group. Each group will also need plastic spoons. If there are 5 students in the group, they will need 4 spoons.
Explain to students that they will need to have 4 cards in their hands at all times. The object of the game is to have the 3 cards that make a multiplication/division problem. For example: 4, 5, and 20 because 4 x 5 = 20, so that is a complete equation.
In order to play, one player will be the dealer. The dealer gives everyone 4 cards and then keeps the pile next to them. The dealer will then pick up 1 card from the pile. If they need that card, they will keep it and exchange it for one in their hands. If they do not need that card, they will simply pass it face down to the next player. The players keep passing the cards The first one to acquire a hand that has 3 cards that make an equation, wins!
As soon as the player has all 3 cards, they grab a spoon. The other students try to grab a remaining spoon. Anyone without a spoon is out; however, when they get "out" they are not "out," they simply join another students team, so they are always working and playing the game. This virtually eliminates behavior problems, because kids are ALWAYS engaged!
