This lesson on the seasons, solstices, and equinoxes it is a great way to teach and/or review the number of daylight hours, seasons, rotation/revolution, the latitude of direct rays, sun's path, the meaning of solstice and equinox, and how and why the solstice is celebrated around the world. This resource includes maps, images, questions, links to websites with additional resources, and an answer key.
I find this to be a great activity to do right before winter break (instead of a holiday activity, do a winter solstice activity).
This lesson can be done as a whole group activity with a projector to show the map, or by printing out the map ahead of time, or individual or small groups on a computer.
To see more suggestions for using this project, and activities for the other solstice and equinoxes, as well as associated websites and vocab activities, go to Solstice and Equinox Hours of Daylight and Seasons Lessons Pack
