By varying sentence patterns and starting sentences with phrases or clauses instead of subjects and verbs, students can improve their writing and create more engaging prose. These 20 Valentine's Day-themed sentences follow a basic structure, beginning with the subject and verb. Challenge your students to rewrite these sentences while preserving their original meaning, encouraging sentence variety. Along the way, they’ll also be reminded of familiar themes and symbols associated with Valentine's Day.

The purpose of the Contraction Puzzles with a winter theme, is to give students a way to practice this skill using manipulatives. The students can use the easiest puzzles first, the ones with a winter shape, to help them gain confidence in their skill. The second set of cards can be differentiated by contraction family. It will help them with learning the connection between the two words that make up the contraction with the actual contraction word.
