FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Reading Strategy Discussion Prompt Cards/Bookmarks {FREE}”

by Keep Calm and Teach
2nd - 6th Grade

This set of Reading Strategy Discussion Prompts encourages students to have discussions about what they are reading. It’s no secret that when we use reading strategies like predicting, questioning, inferring, visualizing, etc., it helps us understand what we’re reading. Unfortunately, these strategies aren’t inherent for everyone, and sometimes students need a little prompting. That’s why these were created. When students can talk about their reading, share their opinions and ideas, and respond to others’ thoughts, they experience higher levels of comprehension.

These prompts help students:
*make predictions
*ask questions
*judge characters
*relate to characters
*share opinions
*make personal connections
*make inferences and conclusions

These are great tools to use during shared reading , guided reading, literacy centers, or even to send home as a way for parents to discuss books with their children. They can be used as cards or bookmarks. They could even go into an interactive notebook. There are three per page so that they can be copied and cut on any color paper you choose. Laminate them for a sturdy card that can be used over and over.

I also have a set of reading logs of 13 different skills and strategies that can be used for shared and guided reading, reader's workshop, literacy centers, homework, or in any way you see helpful:

Reading Strategy Bookmarks are also great reminders for students who are working on a specific skill:
