Are you looking for a way to make your students more focused on what they should be learning, and more motivated to fill in gaps in their knowledge?
I started making "Keeping Track of my Learning" Pages for each unit and they have completely changed my class! They are specific objectives, written in first person, student-friendly language. They also include a list of suggested vocabulary for that unit assessment. Students can rate how they are doing on each one on a descriptive scale. They can then use these to guide their studying, ask questions, etc. I sometimes use them at the start of a unit, midway through, or at the end as a starting point to focus their review.
Each objective is based on standards and performance indicators around It covers content such as heat transfer, specific heat, electromagnetic radiation, water phase change, and kinetic and potential energy.
On my course evaluations many of my past students said this was one of the things that helped them the most!
