FREE SOCIAL STUDIES LESSON - “Free Create a Caricature Literature or History Activity South Park Style”

by Tracee Orman
9th - 12th Grade

Create a Caricature, South-Park Style: Most high school students are familiar with South Park or at least the style of cartoon character from the popular Comedy Central show. This online activity uses a website to re-create original characters or figures from history using that drawing style. Use this in a 1:1 setting, or take your students to the lab one day and have them make caricatures of different people from the textbook, story, or novel you are reading.

It includes a planning worksheet that can be done without the use of a computer and both teacher and student directions.

*I also included blank templates in case you do not have access to a computer and would like your students to draw or cut/paste items onto their figures.*

Please note: Maturity is a factor with this exercise since the figures are nude to begin with. Use your own discretion for what is appropriate with your class.

It is a fun exercise that helps the students relate more with the character/historical figure and reviews the setting, quotes, and context of the literature/history in a unique way.

For teachers in other content areas: you can also use this to review people in your field (scientists, chefs, business leaders, artists, musicians, and so on).
