Skills covered for the quarter include:
- Week 1: Write expressions using variables to represent real-life situations; evaluate and simplify expressions correctly using order of operations
- Week 2: Find cube roots of numbers; Classify numbers by subsets and organize numbers on a number line
- Week 3: Apply the properties of real numbers to simplify numbers; Use the distributive property to simplify or rewrite equivalent algebraic expressions
- Week 4: Model, solve, and graph one-step and two-step equations and inequalities; model and solve multi-step equations
- Week 5: Model, solve, and graph multi-step equations and equations with variables on both sides; Solve linear equations in one variable; Re-arrange formulas to solve for indicated variable; Create equations in one variable and use to solve problems; Solve proportions with real world applications
- Week 6: Determine whether relation is a function given various representations (tables, graphs, mapping diagrams, sets of ordered pairs); Find domain and range of a function and use function notation
- Week 7: Graph functions using tables; Write equations that represent functions; Write and interpret a function rule; understand parts of a function
- Week 8: Identify and extend patterns in sequences; Represent arithmetic sequences using function notation
Note: Only 8 weeks of spiral review are included in the 1st quarter. This is because many administrative tasks take place during the first week of school, such as the welcoming back of students and pre-placement testing.
