Read to Feed Philanthropy Project

One of my goals as a teacher is to teach my students to care and give to others. When I heard about the Read to Feed project by Heifer International, I thought it would be a perfect way to teach my students the act of giving.

What is Read to Feed
Read to Feed is a philanthropy project by Heifer International to promote literacy and giving to others. Student ask sponsors to donate $.10 to $1.00 for every book they read the entire semester or year. After your class calculates the total, you get to give a gift to an impoverished family somewhere around the world!

Example: If I raised $240, I can give 2 goats to a family.

Heifer International works with the family that receives your gifts to train them and educate them on how to raise the animals. After their animals produce an offspring, they are required to give that offspring to another family and educate them on how to raise it.

Included in This Project
♦ Implementing this in your classroom
♦ A handout for parents
♦ Sponsor form
♦ Reading form
♦ Project for students to learn more about poverty

I hope this inspires you to show your kids the gift of giving!
