FREE MATH LESSON - “FREE Using Mental Math to Make Numbers Using Number Tiles”

by Scipi - Science and Math
4th - 6th Grade

This FREE math resource contains hands-on, problem solving activities for grades 4-6 and is online interactive ready. It features number tile math puzzles that provide practice in mental arithmetic, operations with numbers while at the same time encouraging logical reasoning and creativity, all in a game-like setting. Furthermore, they are a powerful tool for teaching students basic addition skills since each row, column, and diagonal must add up to be the same sum.

Number tiles are arranged in such a manner that the sum of the tiles that form each straight line of the number equal the same sum. The designated sum for the number is written on each page as well as the specific number tiles to be used. Both of the number puzzles have more than one answer; so, students are challenged to find a variety of solutions.

The activities require that the students use each number tile only once. However, some of the activities will not require the use of all ten tiles; so, reading and following the directions before beginning each Magic Number puzzle is important. Answer recording sheets are provided for the student as well as possible solutions for the teacher. A Number Tile Keeper in addition to a blackline of the number tiles is located at the end of this resource.

FREE MISC. LESSON - “Social Skills Sampler Freebie”

by Kathy Babineau
Kindergarten - 5th Grade

This Social Skills Sampler Freebie contains a variety of social skill cards that are fun, and target areas that are challenging for many of our students with social pragmatic difficulties: body language, facial expression, identifying feelings, problem-solving, and role-playing. Kids love the "Act It Out" cards to get moving in a charade-style activity that's fun for imaginative play, inferencing, and body language. The perspective and problem-solving questions get kids thinking about how to solve hypothetical social situations. The feelings and facial expressions questions are great for encouraging kids to consider perspectives and produce a variety of facial expressions. The role-play cards provide super simple scripts for social situations to perform and discuss.

To use these cards, simply print, laminate (if desired), and cut apart. These are fun to use in small groups, and can even be used with whole classes during morning meetings, circle time, or during transitions.

I hope you enjoy this activity and find it helpful for you and your students.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Miss Twiggy Maker for Early Readers”

by Margo Gentile
Kindergarten - 2nd Grade

Here we have an extension activity that can be customized for individual students. If you prefer, you can also use one or all activities for centers/independent work for all students.

There are 3 activities.

First, there is a large picture of Miss Twiggie that is a simple coloring

page.

Next, there is a coloring page which needs to be colored according to

the color name labels.

Last, there is a color, cut, and paste activity in which the students

will “build” Miss Twiggie from a basic twig torso to adding twig limbs,

acorn head, and leaf dress.

The “body build” is the ideal project for a center activity. Instructions are

simple and shapes plus outlines of items help the children with the

placement and order of gluing on the parts.

This differentiated activity is used to introduce the main character of

the Miss Twiggie series. It is perfectly suited for and differentiated for

grades K,1,2. You can also use this activity as a stand alone for fall.

The Miss Twiggie series is a collection of stories about the adventures

of a fantasy figure named Miss Twiggie. As her names implies, she is a

natural nymph who has an acorn head, and a body made of twigs. The

resources of the forest provide for all of her needs. This little lady

embodies the spirit of friendship, kindness, ingenuity, and fun in her

escapades in the woods.
