Below is the product description for my Summarizing: Differentiated Reading Passages and Questions

-------------------------------------

Summarizing Differentiated Reading Passages and Questions for Reading Comprehension

Perfect for grades 3 – 6

The goal of this resource is to help students sharpen their ability to summarize. It provides students with a practical process that initially guides them to relevant information from the text using a graphic organizer. I also ask them to read a summary and identify different issues (irrelevant details, opinions, not enough information, retelling events out of order, etc.). Once students progress through this resource and become familiar with the summary-writing process, I remove the use of a graphic organizer and ask them to write their own summaries. Additionally, they will be asked to make increasingly-detailed critiques of others summaries to identify issues and explain how to improve the summary.

This resource includes everything you will need to practice characters with your students! I’ve included THREE DIFFERENT LEVELS OF EACH PASSAGE for you to easily differentiate in your classroom! There are also short-answer questions for your students to practice inferring.

This resource addresses the following skills:
1.) Completing a graphic organizer (Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then)
2.) Writing a summary based on the text
3.) Identifying errors in a completed summary
4.) Identifying the correct summary out of a group of four summaries
5.) Critiquing a summary and writing to explain the issues and how to make it better
6.) Describe how characters change or respond to events in a story as the plot unfolds.

Included in this resource:

Leveled Passages
This resource contains ten differentiated fiction passages. There are three levels of each passage so you can easily differentiate with your students. The levels are based on word count and Lexile levels, which can be found in the top left corner of each passage.
DOWNLOAD THE PREVIEW TO SEE THE LEXILE LEVELS OF EACH PASSAGE

Two Graphic Organizers and Four Short-Answer Questions Per Passage
Each passage includes four questions that include a combination of completing a graphic organizer, short-answer, and multiple choice.

The questions become increasingly complex as you progress through the resource.

Detailed Answer Keys
Answer keys with detailed example responses are provided with every set of questions.

Perfect for grades 3 through 6!
