FREE MATH LESSON - “Area and Perimeter Tiling Unit Squares Task Cards”

Introduce students to finding the Area & Perimeter of rectangles in its simplest form with these Area and Perimeter Tiling Unit Squares Task Cards. These Area & Perimeter Task cards contain a set of open-ended task cards that can be used to practice either area OR perimeter of rectangles so that you can use them to practice both skills. Students practice finding the area and/or the perimeter of rectangles by counting the tiled unit squares. They intentionally do not have directions on the cards and the recording sheet. This allows you to have students practice area, perimeter, or both.

This product includes 1 set of task cards as well as a recording sheet with a mustache theme. The answer key includes answers for both area and perimeter. These task cards are perfect for Scoot and Solve the Rooms as students practice area and perimeter of rectangles.

DISTRIBUTIVE PROPERTY- This product also demonstrates the distributive property as students decompose the shape into smaller parts and then add them together (area as additive). You may also be interested in my Distributive Property task cards to practice this skill without the area model.

These notes provide students with less structure than my traditional guided notes and are not as busy as more doodle-style notes.

FAQ

Are these notes good for all students? Honestly, no. Some students need structure and need traditional guided notes. These notes are good for students who are able to take notes without so much structure.
Are these CCSS or TEKS aligned? The notes work with my 6th Grade Math Curriculum. If you are using my curriculum, they will work alongside it well and give you the opportunity to scaffold the way you give notes.
Is there an answer key? Yes! There are "sample" pages with answers and sample problems when applicable (taken from my curriculum notes). But please do not make your students think their notes have to look like the sample (you shouldn't think that either!) Creativity and personality need to come into play!
Is it editable? Yes and no. The PDF is not editable but a 50 slide PowerPoint is included that contains all of the skill pages and blank student organization pages so you can make them your own!
Are these included in any bundle? Yes! Yes! A 6th - 8th Grade Bullet Notes Bundle is available!
