This resource features the tried and true icebreaker ‘Would You Rather…?’. It comes with two handout pages totaling 36 unique questions for getting to know someone on the first day of school or for times of general community-building.
All 36 questions help you get to know new peers or groups of people and promote an active dialogue by building trust when meeting someone for the first time. There are questions that will make you laugh, question, wonder, and think critically.
Like all icebreakers, this activity is great for building a community of learners on the first day of class and sets the tone for the rest of the year.
Simple Ways to Play
Option 1: Put a group of students together at a station and give them the printed 2 pages with questions. Have them take turns drawing and reading the ‘would you rather’ questions. They can either answer themselves or pass it to another partner.
Option 2: Put two students together at a station and give them each the printed 2 pages with questions. Have them take turns asking and answering the questions. Be sure to encourage them to ask follow-up questions such as ‘How did you choose that?’ or ‘Why do you think ______ is better than ________?’
