The gradual release of responsibility method ensures that students have the tools, strategies, and academic language they need, before attempting to work out problems independently. The method can be used across disciplines and grade levels. It provides an instructional framework, with each step propelling students toward independence.
This short video includes an overview, with examples from a lesson in which I use it. An editable lesson planning template is also included, as well as a Google Drive version. The template and video will guide you through the process of creating gradual release of responsibility lessons with ease!
The lesson that I used in the video to model the method is this one:

This is what teachers are saying about Teach, Practice, Test units:
★ I wish there was an A+++++ option! My students love this! It may be the best thing I've ever bought on TPT, and I've bought a lot.
★ One of the best products I've purchased from this site! Extremely thorough and easy for the students to follow.
★ I can't give this enough A's!!! Organized, rigorous, everything I need to teach the objectives for the standard. Once the lesson is complete the strategies can easily be applied to whatever text we are reading in class.
★ The organization allows for quick preparation of district lesson plans. If your life is full in and out of school, this is the resource you need.
