FREE MATH LESSON - “FREE Unit Fraction Bar Model Reasoning Cards”

by Number Sense Guy
4th - 8th Grade

Using unit fractions to reason the size of the other fractions

For these cards, you would notice that 1/8 has been labeled and that 7/8 constitutes the rest of the rectangle which has been partitioned. So for the first one, since a is bigger than b, a would be 4/8 or 1/2 , b would be 3/8. I can check my answer by adding 4/8 + 3/8 + 1/8 to get 8/8 or 1 whole.

Using a unit fraction to decompose and compose parts of a whole

For these cards, you would have already reasoned the size of the missing fractions using the unit fraction. For this you would adding the shaded fraction pieces together. For the first one, you have 1/6 which is the shaded unit fraction, plus a which is twice the size of the unit fraction, making it 2/6 or 1/3, so 2/6 + 1/6= 3/6 or 1/2

SET INCLUDES:
