Kids love playgrounds! This is an engaging take-home activity that students (and parents) can enjoy over school breaks / holidays or as a weekend assignment. Each student surveys two playgrounds and brings results back to the class. Each survey involves a sketch of the layout, listing of key features, and an overall rating. This could even be done virtually or on a car ride while social distancing.
This project allows for so many ways to create charts, graphs, and posters to illustrate various aspects of local playgrounds... very open and adaptable! One student even created his own Playground Project Website that aggregates all his survey results. Check it out for inspiration!
