How do animals use their body parts to survive?
This fun inquiry-based lesson includes step-by-step instructions, structured students questions, vocabulary, and a graphic organizer! Students will be making observations of various organisms and how they use their body parts to survive. Next they will use the structure & function graphic organizer to record their observations and then communicate those observations with their class!
An animal body parts PPT is included with a fun animal part guessing game for your kiddos.
Follow-up the activity with a Kangaroo and/or Shark Animal Body Part Labeling & Fill in the blank sheet.
This structure & function mini-lesson will help your students develop background knowledge for 1st Grade Life Science NGSS standard 1-LS1-1- Use materials to design a solution to a human problem by mimicking how plants or animals use their external parts to help them survive, grow and meet their needs.
Structure and Function is an essential cross cutting concept for the Next Generation Science Standards and will help students better make connections across the sciences!
